Shiraz rose 2016
This Rosé was made from Shiraz grapes from a neighboring farm in the Franschhoek valley.
Prior to ripening, the conditions were extremely dry and hot.
The grapes were hand harvested in the coolness of the early morning on the 9th February.
After destemming bunches, the berries were fed directly to a stainless steel tank. After a few hours of skin contact, the juice was drained to another tank for settling overnight. The clean juice was inoculated for fermentation. After fermentation, the wine was transferred to old French oak barrels. In order to retain freshness, no Malolactic fermentation was done. The wine was aged for 4 months in barrel before bottling.
Tasting & Analysis
Intense red fruit and floral notes on the nose carry through on the pallet. The freshness of the wine and crisp acidity on the finish, makes this a great summer wine. The wine is full bodied due to the time in oak barrel and has a dry finish and lingering aftertaste.
This wine can be enjoyed at any time of the day and can be partnered with a wide range of meals or snacks. It is a refreshing wine - perfect as an aperitif or with Asian food, grilled poultry and fish. Creamy cheeses such as fresh mozzarella and smoked brie interact very well with this style of wine.
