This 2011 Shiraz was produced from fully ripe grapes harvested from Haut Espoir in the Franschhoek region.

During the flowering season, strong winds lead to malformed bunches.

The grapes were hand harvested in the coolness of early mornings on 24th February.

After de-stemming the berries were inoculated for fermentation in small open fermentation tanks. During the peak of fermentation, 5 punch downs per day were administered. After two weeks of maturation, the wine was transferred to French oak barrels where it underwent spontaneous Malolactic fermentation. The Shiraz matured in barrel for 4 years.

Tasting & Analysis

This Shiraz is a typical example of the terroir on the Scherpheuwelberg.  White pepper and sweet plum are infused with oak on the nose. The sweetness of the dark fruit carries through on the pallet and secondary bottle age adds richness to the mid pallet. Although tannins are well integrated, there is just enough grippy tannins and freshness to create a long finish

Rich stews, barbecued meat and matured hard cheeses. This wine is released ready to drink and will develop further with bottle ageing.
